As of January 2026, Indian citizens no longer require an Airport Transit Visa (Type A) for airside transits through Germany.
Schengen visa processing is now centralized at the German Consulate Mumbai; however, you can submit your application at ANY VFS center in India regardless of your residence.
Biometrics (fingerprints) are mandatory unless you have provided them for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months.
Standard visa fees are €90 for adults and €45 for children (6–12 years). Children under 6 are exempt from the visa fee.
VFS Global service charges (approx. ₹2,000–₹2,500) and mandatory pre-payment are required to secure an appointment.
It is highly recommended to apply at least 45 days before travel due to high demand and centralized processing times.
All documents must be provided in A4 size and should not be stapled.
